PRP Q & A
What is PRP?
Platelet-rich plasma (PRP) is a groundbreaking substance created using the valuable regenerative components of your blood. PRP contains two main components:
Platelets are a type of cell in your blood that clot together to form scabs and heal injuries. They release growth factors to aid in tissue regeneration.
Plasma is the liquid in which all of your blood cells are suspended. It allows your blood to flow freely through your body. As the base of PRP, it makes PRP into a substance that is easy to inject.
When you come to Orchid Wellness and Medical Spa for a PRP treatment, they use the Dr. PRP© kit, and the first step is a blood draw.
The team takes a sample of your blood and uses a centrifuge to spin it rapidly. The spinning motion causes your blood to separate into the distinct layers with a high concentration of platelets. Using the best available technology, the team gets the maximum number of platelets for the best possible effect.
PRP injections can help ease joint pain and inflammation and address aesthetic concerns, like collagen loss within your skin or hair loss.
How does PRP treat hair loss?
Orchid Wellness and Medical Spa uses PRP injections as a treatment for hair loss for men and women. If your hair is thinning as you age, PRP injections directly to your scalp may increase blood flow to the inactive hair follicles within your scalp. During treatment, your provider delivers several injections across your balding area or area of thinning hair to promote better follicle functioning.
During a consultation, your provider evaluates your hair loss and asks about your medical history to determine whether or not you’re a candidate for PRP injections. If you are, they help you plan a series of PRP treatments. Even as you see regrowth, your provider might suggest that you return once every 3-6 months for maintenance PRP injections for continued growth.
Are PRP treatments comfortable?
The team at Orchid Wellness and Medical Spa strives to make PRP treatments as comfortable as possible. They may use one or both of these strategies to reduce discomfort associated with the scalp injections:
Nitrous oxide, also commonly called laughing gas, is a gaseous sedative that helps you relax before a medical procedure. You might be familiar with it from the dentist’s office. It won’t put you to sleep, and the effects wear off quickly, so you can drive home safely after your injections.
Nerve blocks are numbing injections that stop certain nerves from sending pain signals to your brain. Their effects also help you manage any discomfort from the injections after they occur.
