Chemical Peel Q & A
What is a chemical peel?
A chemical peel is a cosmetic treatment that removes the surface layer of your skin, which has suffered years’ worth of built-up damage, to reveal the fresh skin underneath. Depending on the type of damage you want to treat — acne scars, wrinkles, hyperpigmentation — Orchid Wellness and Medical Spa has a chemical peel to meet your needs.
The team uses a variety of PCA SKIN® Peels to brighten and exfoliate your skin. Some of the most popular options include:
- PCA Peel®
- Sensi Peel®
- Ultra Peel® I
- Ultra Peel® Forte
- Smoothing Body Peel Treatment
- Esthetique Peel
- Ultra Peel® II
- Retinol Peel
- Therapuetic Mask Treatment
- Detox Gel Deep Pore Treatment
- Oxegenating Trio (only Chemical Peel suitable for Pregnant or Nursing women)
Orchid Wellness and Medical Spa is proud to provide PCA SKIN® chemical peels, which deliver gentle exfoliation for even sensitive skin.
How do chemical peels work?
Chemical peels exfoliate the skin until the top layer peels off. This process of shedding the skin and damaged surface cells to reveal the unmarred skin underneath is called cell turnover. Once the process completes, you should see new skin that has fewer fine lines, scars, age spots, debris, and more.
While chemical peels remove the surface layer of your skin, you won’t necessarily see it fall off in one layer. Every client experiences varying levels of peeling. While some experience sheeting — when the skin peels off in large portions, all at once — others notice their skin flaking off in small clumps over time. The deeper the peel, the more peeling you can expect to see.
If you notice little to no peeling, the exfoliation process is still happening on a cellular level, but you may not be able to see it.
What can a chemical peel treat?
Both effective and minimally invasive, chemical peels can treat skin damage on the face, neck, or hands. A chemical peel may be the right treatment if you have:
- Fine lines and wrinkles
- Acne scars
- Mild scars
- Age spots
- Sun damage
- Melasma (brown spots)
- Uneven skin tone
Chemical peels help your skin look soft, young, and even. After an initial consultation, Orchid Wellness and Medical Spa can help determine the right peel for you.
The team even offers the Hollywood Laser Peel®, a chemical peel that uses targeted laser energy to rejuvenate the skin with virtually no downtime.
Who is a good candidate for chemical peels?
While chemical peels work best on clients with fair skin, they can also treat a variety of problems if you have a darker skin tone. If you have deep wrinkles and creases or saggy skin, alternative treatments may be more suitable for you.
What can I expect after a chemical peel?
Your skin is more sensitive to the sun after a chemical peel, so it’s best to avoid sunlight whenever possible. Make sure you wear sunscreen and a wide-brimmed hat if you do go outside.
Mild redness and swelling are normal side effects of a chemical peel and can last up to 14 days or more, during which time your skin should begin to slough off. The deeper your chemical peel is, the longer it takes to heal.
The results may seem subtle at first, but you should notice visible improvements in your skin’s tone and texture over the coming weeks and months.
