We all sweat!

Sweating is actually a normal body activity and a defense mechanism against excess heat and it protects us from heat, but some people sweat more than the others to the point of annoyance. This condition is called “Hyperhidrosis” meaning excessive sweating! This condition usually causes social embarrassment, isolation and bad odor will be a repellant of even the significant other!!!

Botox has been approved by the FDA and used since 1989 for some medical conditions like neck muscles spasm and crossed-eyes, in 2002 was its first approval to use for cosmetics and esthetics like facial wrinkles.

Among the conditions Botox is approved is the excessive sweating in underarms, although it has been used in other areas as well like palms, forehead, soles etc.

How it works?

When Botox is injected in underarm area it blocks the nerves going to sweat glands and blocks their activity, resulting in decrease the amount of sweat produced.

How to know where to treat?

In order to find the exact location and spread of your sweat gland we use a simple test called “Iodine-Starch test”, we clean your underarm with an Iodine contained solution and then dust it with some starch powder, the mixture turns dark and maps the area with most sweat glands, leading to a successful treatment

Schematic of the treatment steps

With a single treatment we anticipate to have 6-8 months of decrease in excess sweating, sometimes two or three treatments are required.

Your treatment day:

After you admitted and filled the forms we will guide you to the treatment room and dress you in appropriate treatment dress, then we do the Iodine-starch test to map the treatment area, then we start the injection in the area, the treatment is not very painful usually and if you need, we can use different modalities like numbing cream or “laughing gas” to make it tolerable.
